Home Office Approves Tele-Traffic's Concept

Warwick based global traffic safety equipment company, Tele-Traffic UK Ltd is today celebrating after receiving Home Office Type Approval for its revolutionary Concept DVD system.

Three years in the making, the Concept signifies the start of a new digital age for traffic safety solutions altogether. A fully digital recording system which is not only lightweight but easily transportable, the system is hard disk transferable to broadcast standard DVD and embodies a newly designed processor, offering more user facilities than ever before.

Under the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988, however, all safety equipment products used to enforce compliance with speed limits must be first ‘type approved’ by the Secretary of State before they can be legally used and evidence from them can be used in court.

This involves a notoriously rigorous process and consequently Tele-Traffic’s Concept DVD system was subjected to a series of scrupulous tests, all of which it passed, before acquiring the globally recognised accreditation.

First of all, the system was thoroughly examined by the Association of Chief Police Officers Traffic Enforcement Technology Sub-Committee (ACPO TET). Tried and tested in every-day operation mode by three separate police forces, the Concept was subsequently approved as a necessary piece of equipment in the UK police force’s fight against speeding.

Following this, the Concept underwent intense technical testing, initially by an independent source and latterly, and more importantly, by the Home Office’s Scientific Development Branch. Proven to be to technically adept, as a public assurance of the equipment’s accuracy and reliability, the equipment was finally granted with the much-coveted approval.

Peter Gay at Tele-Traffic comments: "The approval process for all traffic safety enforcement equipment is renowned for being difficult, as you not only have your product technologically approved but it also has to be seen to be as necessary by the end-user; most typically expert, hands-on traffic police. Altogether, the process has taken over 15 months to complete but we were confident throughout that we have a really good product and are delighted to have received this approval which is a confirmation of this."
